This week my wife was supposed to have foot surgery (nothing major, but would take her off her feet for 4-6 weeks). We had everything set. People had volunteered to bring food. Her mom had taken off work to come help. I had arranged for a guest speaker so I could completely clear my schedule. The Leadership Team at church had even paid for a cleaning lady to come clean the house for 4 weeks!
Today we woke up to the phone ringing. The doctor's office had messed up the schedule and had schedule Christan for a time when the doctor wasn't even going to be at the same hospital. They just figured it out this morning! Needless to say, I was not happy. As a matter of fact I was pretty ticked off. Probably too upset.
It really made me mad that a simple oversight messed up so many things. If the doctor had gotten sick, I could have understood. But a mistake...
Well, they rescheduled it for next week. Which actually, works out better - that's hard for me to admit. It ended up that our youngest daughter came home from Kindergarten with a fever and is pretty sick. I'm glad I'm not taking care of her and my wife tonight. Christan and I got to go out for a nice breakfast together and now we will get to do some Christmas shopping that we were afraid we wouldn't have time to do.
I'm writing this simply to remind you that sometimes we make plans and they get messed up. You can choose to be mad about it or you can choose to find the positive. Your choice. James 4:13-17 reminds us that we can't boast about tomorrow or our plans. We can only submit them to God and do our best.
Under the Mercy,
Jason
