Happy Hour

As a nation we are obsessed with happiness. Our Declaration of Independence says we all have the inalienable right to life, liberty, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Will Smith starred in a movie about working hard and making sacrifices for this dream. We all want to be happy. if we aren't happy we need to figure out why. But something might be wrong with that idea...

What if we challenged the premise that we should be happy? What if being happy wasn't God's plan for our lives? Would that change your view of God? Of the church? Of religion?

What if it wasn't about your feelings but about our obedience? How would that change your worldview?

I'm sitting at Cheeseburger in Paradise as I write this. The waiter just informed me that they extended HAPPY HOUR so I could get half-price beer longer. Maybe I should start an OBEDIENCE HOUR and focus on how obedient I am to God's calling on my life. I may not be more happy, but maybe that's not the point.
