I used to love McDonald's. As you can see by my waistline, I liked it too much. I cut back dramatically from their hamburgers and fries and such simply for my own health. They still taste good! I do, however, still indulge in a breakfast sandwich from McD's every so often. Along with that sandwich, I get a cup of coffee.
A couple of years ago, McD's "upgraded" their coffee. I was happy. Recently, they have offered (and sometimes if feels like required) to fix your coffee for you - adding cream and sugar. This seemed like a great idea because I could just go through the drive-thru and my coffee would be ready.
Here's the rub...8 out of 10 ten times, they don't get it right. It's only coffee! How hard is it to put in a few sugar packets and one creamer? But they seemingly NEVER get it right. I have tried 4 different McD's and all of them have been really bad. From putting in Splenda to putting in 3 creams and 1 sugar (instead of 3 sugars and 1 cream) to the coffee being cold, I am constantly surprised at how poor a job they do...especially when a place like Starbucks can get the same thing right.
Why I'm ranting:
How often do we as a church try to "upgrade" only to realize that our new system doesn't work well and then we take forever to either fix it or scrap it? As I think about Terra Nova, I wonder what new thing we've added lately that really isn't helping people, it is actually becoming a sore spot (and I don't know about it!).
I hope we are all working hard to create a safe, healthy environment for people to connect and re-connect with God. I hope our community is filled with loving people doing their best to make sure even the simple things are done well. I hope I am leading everyone in the direction of love and hope while not forgetting the little details.
I would appreciate your feedback...
Under the Mercy,
Jason
